Fortinet 400GbE QSFP-DD Module, Short Range 100m MMF (FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-SR8)

The FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-SR8 is Fortinet’s short-reach 400G optic. Eight parallel 850nm lanes over an MPO-16 ribbon carry a full 400 Gbps to 100m, connecting a QSFP-DD port on a high-end Fortinet appliance to a 400G spine switch inside the same data-center hall. The eight-lane SR8 layout maps a full 400G interface to multimode fiber, the lowest-cost way to run 400G at in-row distances.

Where this module fits

A 400G SR8 optic is the in-hall 400-gigabit uplink: a QSFP-DD port on a Fortinet appliance to a 400G spine over MPO-16 multimode cabling, at 100m. For a 500m single-mode hop step up to the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-DR4, for 2km the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-FR4 or DR4+, and for a short port-to-port link the FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-DAC-01 passive DAC is lower cost. Note it uses an MPO-16 connector, distinct from the MPO-12 of the single-mode DR4 modules.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP-DD slots on 400G-capable Fortinet appliances and connects over MPO-16 parallel multimode fiber at 400GbE to 100m. Pair it with a matching SR8 optic at the far end. For single-mode reach use the FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-DR4 (500m) or FN-TRAN-QSFPDD-FR4 (2km); for a copper in-rack link the FN-CABLE-QSFPDD-DAC-01 direct-attach cable replaces the optic and fiber.
