Short 40-gigabit links inside a data center run cheapest on multimode fiber, and the FN-TRAN-QSFP+SR is Fortinet’s 40GBASE-SR4 module for that job. Four parallel 850nm lanes over an MPO-12 ribbon carry a full 40 GbE to 150m on OM4, so a QSFP+ port on a FortiGate can uplink to an aggregation switch a few rows away. Because it also seats in a QSFP28 cage, it fits both 40G and 100G-capable appliances.

A 40G SR4 optic is the standard in-row uplink: a QSFP+ port on a FortiGate to a spine or aggregation switch over structured MPO multimode cabling. At 150m on OM4 it spans a data-center row without stepping up to single-mode optics. For a 10km reach use the FN-TRAN-QSFP+LR, for 40km the FN-TRAN-QSFP+ER, and for a short port-to-port link a passive FN-CABLE-QSFP+1 DAC is lower cost.

Compatibility

Fits QSFP+ and QSFP28 slots on Fortinet appliances and connects over MPO-12 parallel multimode fiber at 40GbE. Pair it with a matching SR module or 40G switch port at the far end. For longer reaches use the single-mode FN-TRAN-QSFP+LR or ER; for an in-rack copper link the FN-CABLE-QSFP+1 direct-attach cable replaces the optic and fiber.
