Fortinet 1GbE SFP BiDi Transceiver Module, 40km, TX 1490nm (FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD40)

The FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD40 is Fortinet’s long-haul 1-gigabit BiDi optic for single-fibre links. A BiDi module carries both directions of the link on one strand using two wavelengths: this 1BD40 half transmits at 1490nm and receives at 1310nm, reaching 40km over single-mode fibre on a single simplex LC connector. It is the 40km member of the family, four times the reach of the 10km 1BD10, and it fits SFP and SFP+ cages on FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances. Being Fortinet-qualified, it is accepted by the appliance instead of raising an unsupported-optic alarm.

Where this module fits

BiDi optics halve the number of fibre strands a link consumes, which matters most on the longest, most expensive runs. The 1BD40 is built for exactly that: a 40km single-mode span where leased or dark fibre is scarce, such as remote-site backhaul or a metro link between buildings. Deploy it opposite an FN-TRAN-SFP-1BU40 at the far end. Its wide -40°C to 85°C rating also suits outdoor cabinets and OT sites. For a 10km reach, the shorter FN-TRAN-SFP-1BD10 is the economical choice.

Compatibility

Fits SFP and SFP+ ports on FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances. It links only to its opposite-wavelength partner, the FN-TRAN-SFP-1BU40 (TX 1310 / RX 1490); two 1BD40s cannot form a link. Use OS2 single-mode fibre with a simplex LC connector. Where two strands are available, the duplex FN-TRAN-LX covers 10km 1GbE, and the FN-TRAN-EX family covers 40km on two fibres.
