It is a 2500BASE-X module operating at 850nm on a duplex LC connector, reaching 300m, which makes it the multimode counterpart to the single-mode FN-TRAN-SFP2-LX. The 2.5G rate suits multi-gig access uplinks and Wi-Fi 6/6E aggregation inside a building or across a campus riser. It fits SFP and SFP+ cages on FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances that support 2.5G optics and, being Fortinet-qualified, is accepted by the appliance.

Choose the SFP2-SX for 2.5GbE over existing multimode fibre inside a building: aggregating multi-gigabit access switches or FortiAP Wi-Fi 6/6E uplinks to a FortiGate or FortiSwitch across an intra-building or riser run up to 300m. The 2.5G rate lets you exceed 1GbE on the same multimode plant without moving to 10G. For a long single-mode span at the same rate, use the FN-TRAN-SFP2-LX.

Compatibility

Fits the 2.5G-capable SFP/SFP+ ports of FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances (confirm the port supports 2.5GbE). Use OM3/OM4 multimode duplex LC fibre with a matching 2500BASE-X optic at the far end. For a 25km single-mode link, the FN-TRAN-SFP2-LX is the counterpart; for a 1GbE multimode short reach, the FN-TRAN-SX is the lower-rate option.
