This 10GBASE-ER module pushes 10GbE over single-mode fiber at 1550nm as far as 40km, and installs in any SFP+ port on a FortiGate, FortiSwitch, or FortiManager. As a Fortinet-qualified module it is recognized by the appliance instead of triggering an unsupported-optic warning.

Extended-range 10GbE is for metro and inter-site links: joining two data centers across a city, or backhauling a remote FortiGate to headquarters over leased single-mode fiber. At 40km the optical budget matters, so verify the fiber loss on the span before committing to ER over a repeated LR path.

Compatibility

Fits the SFP+ ports of FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances. Use OS2 single-mode duplex LC fiber and a matching ER module at the far end. For 10km spans the FN-TRAN-SFP+LR is more economical; inside a data center, the SR module or a direct-attach cable is the right tool.
