The FN-TRAN-SFP+ZR is Fortinet’s longest-reach 10GbE SFP+ optic, built for spans that outrun even the 40km ER module. This 10GBASE-ZR module drives 10-gigabit Ethernet at 1550nm over single-mode fibre as far as 80km on a duplex LC connector, for point-to-point metro and inter-city links. It installs in any SFP+ cage on a FortiGate, FortiSwitch, or FortiManager and, being Fortinet-qualified, clears the appliance’s transceiver check.

Where this module fits

Ultra-long-range 10GbE is for carrying a link between cities or across a metro region: joining two data centers 80km apart or backhauling a distant site to a central core over leased or dark single-mode fibre. At 80km the optical power budget is tight, so the fibre’s total loss must be measured and kept within the module’s link budget, sometimes with an inline attenuator on shorter-than-rated spans to avoid overloading the receiver.

Compatibility

Fits the SFP+ ports of FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances. Use OS2 single-mode duplex LC fibre and a matching ZR-class optic at the far end. For 40km spans, the FN-TRAN-SFP+ER (or the industrial FN-TRAN-SFP+ERI) is more economical; inside a data center, the SR module or a direct-attach cable is the right tool.
