Fortinet FortiRugged 1GbE SFP SX Transceiver Module, 550m (FR-TRAN-SX)

The FR-TRAN-SX is the FortiRugged member of Fortinet’s 1-gigabit short-range optics. It is a 1000BASE-SX module at 850nm over multimode fibre, reaching 500m on 50/125 µm fibre (220m on older 62.5/125 µm) via a duplex LC connector, and qualified across an extended -40°C to 85°C range for the harshest sites. Its FR- naming aligns it with the FortiGate Rugged (FGR) OT line, where wide-temperature optics are required. It fits SFP cages on hardened FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances and passes the transceiver check.

Where this module fits

The FR-TRAN-SX is the SX optic to pair with FortiGate Rugged and other OT-hardened appliances: 1GbE multimode links inside a substation, roadside cabinet, or industrial enclosure where the standard SX’s -20°C rating leaves no cold-weather margin. It reaches 500m on OM2/OM3 fibre. Where you need several hardened SX optics at once, the FN-TRAN-SXI-4PACK bundles four; for a controlled-environment link, the standard FN-TRAN-SX is the economical option.

Compatibility

Fits the SFP/SFP+ ports of FortiGate (including Rugged), FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances. Use OM2 or better multimode duplex LC fibre with a matching 1000BASE-SX optic at the far end. For a 90km single-mode reach on the rugged line, the FR-TRAN-ZX is the long-range FortiRugged optic; for single-mode 10km, the FN-TRAN-LX applies.
