Fortinet 10GbE SFP+ Active Direct Attach Cable, 10m (SP-CABLE-ADASFP+)

The SP-CABLE-ADASFP+ extends the reach of a direct-attach copper link well past what a passive DAC can manage. Unlike the 1m/3m/5m passive twinax cables, this one is active: small signal-boosting electronics are built into each connector, letting a 10GbE Ethernet or Fibre Channel link run the full 10 meters over twinax copper on 0.5W of power, with the transceivers already integrated so there is nothing extra to buy. It plugs straight into any SFP+ cage on a FortiGate, FortiSwitch, or FortiManager.

Where this cable fits

Reach for the ADASFP+ when a rack-to-rack or row-to-row 10GbE link is too long for a passive DAC (which tops out around 5m) but still short enough that fibre is overkill. It is a lower-cost, lower-latency alternative to a pair of SFP+ optics plus fibre patch cords for links inside a single data hall. Beyond 10m, or where the path leaves the data hall, move to an SR/LR fibre optic pair instead.

Compatibility

Fits SFP+ ports on FortiGate, FortiSwitch, and FortiManager appliances, and works down to 1Gbps on SFP/SFP+ dual-rate ports. The transceiver electronics are built in, so no separate optic is needed at either end. For shorter, lower-cost in-rack runs, the passive FN-CABLE-SFP+1/3/5 cables are the standard choice; for distances beyond 10m, use the FN-TRAN-SFP+SR (multimode) or FN-TRAN-SFP+LR (single-mode) fibre optics.
