Product description

When your deployment site is an oil platform, a remote manufacturing plant, or a transit hub in -40 degree weather, a standard indoor access point simply won’t do. The FortiAP-432FR (FAP-432FR-A) is Fortinet’s Class I, Division 2 certified Wi-Fi 6 access point built for exactly these conditions: IP67-sealed, rated to -40°C, and carrying a tri-radio 4×4 MIMO design that keeps clients connected on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously while a dedicated third radio scans for rogue APs and wireless threats around the clock.

What’s in the Box

The FAP-432FR-A ships with six external N-type dual-band omni antennas (5 antennas total supporting the radios plus scanning), a wall and pole mounting kit with integrated antenna bracket, and a passive PoE injector that includes reset functionality. For 802.3at active PoE injection from a standard switch, the GPI-130 injector (sold separately) is the recommended accessory. An AC adapter (SP-FAP400-PA, Region A) is available for non-PoE installations. When powered at 802.3at levels, the AP operates in full 4×4 mode at 17 dBm reduced Tx power on both radios.

Where the 432FR Performs Best

Three characteristics separate this AP from a typical outdoor unit. The CID2 rating makes it legal for areas where flammable gases or vapors may be present under abnormal conditions, a requirement in oil and gas, chemical processing, grain handling, and paint booth environments. The IP67 seal blocks complete dust ingress and withstands temporary submersion, so heavy rain, high-pressure washdowns, or condensation cycles cannot reach the internals. The -40°C cold start means a unit pole-mounted outdoors in northern Canada or on an exposed industrial site survives the winter without supplemental heating.

The dedicated third radio provides continuous dual-band spectrum scanning. Rogue AP detection, WIDS/WIPS events, packet capture, and spectrum analysis all run without pulling any client-serving radio off duty. The PoE PSE port on the 1 GbE interface lets the AP power a downstream device, such as a camera or sensor, directly from its own PoE input.

Hardware Alone vs. With FortiCare

The FAP-432FR-A includes a limited lifetime hardware warranty. For a unit mounted 20 metres up on an outdoor pole at a remote facility, the question is not whether to buy FortiCare but which tier. FortiCare Premium (FC-10-FR432-247-02-12) provides 24×7 TAC and Next Business Day RMA. FortiCare Elite (FC-10-FR432-284-02-12) steps up to 15-minute critical response and Next Calendar Day Delivery, meaning a replacement ships the same day a critical case is opened. Choose your tier based on how long that site can tolerate a wireless outage.

Who Deploys It

Network engineers and IT managers responsible for outdoor wireless coverage in industrial environments: utilities, mining operations, ports, airports, petrochemical plants, and municipal transit systems. Organizations running FortiGate as their edge security appliance benefit from native Security Fabric integration, unified wired and wireless policy, and single-pane FortiManager visibility across the FortiAP fleet.

Moving Up

The FortiAP-432G (FAP-432G-A) is the Wi-Fi 6E successor, adding 6 GHz band support and tri-radio architecture with comparable industrial-grade durability. If you need indoor wireless on the same deployment alongside the rugged outdoor unit, a FortiWiFi desktop like the FWF-50G-A handles LAN-side access with integrated firewall functionality.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

The FAP-432FR-A ships from DataCenter360.ca in Canada, brand new from stock, with free delivery in 0 to 1 business days. As a Fortinet Select Partner with FCP certification, we stock the FortiCare support contracts alongside the hardware so you can cover the AP at the same time you order it.

Does the FAP-432FR-A ship with everything needed to power it on day one?
Yes. It ships with a passive PoE injector that provides full 802.3bt power and includes reset functionality. The unit can also be powered by an 802.3at switch or injector (such as the GPI-130), but that reduces Tx power on both radios to 17 dBm. For full 29 dBm / 28 dBm output, use the included passive injector or an 802.3bt source.
What does Class I Division 2 certification mean for my deployment?
CID2 means the unit is certified for deployment in areas where flammable gases, vapors, or liquids may be present under abnormal operating conditions. This covers the majority of oil and gas, chemical processing, and paint booth environments. It does not cover Class I Division 1 areas, where hazardous concentrations are present continuously under normal conditions.
Can the 432FR be managed without a local FortiGate?
Yes. FortiEdge Cloud provides cloud-based management for FortiAP deployments where no on-premises FortiGate is available. The 432FR can be onboarded to FortiEdge Cloud for centralized policy, monitoring, and firmware management, making it suitable for remote sites that rely entirely on cloud management.
Can the 432FR’s PoE PSE port power a connected device?
Yes, when the AP itself is powered by the PoE injector included in the box. The 1 GbE port supports 802.3af PSE output, allowing it to power a camera, sensor, or other 802.3af-compatible device connected to that port. PSE functionality is not available when the AP is powered by an 802.3at source.
What FortiCare options are available for the FAP-432FR?
FortiCare Premium (FC-10-FR432-247-02-12, -36, -60) covers 24×7 TAC and Next Business Day RMA in 1, 3, and 5-year terms. FortiCare Elite (FC-10-FR432-284-02-12, -36) adds 15-minute critical response and Next Calendar Day Delivery RMA. All contracts are delivered electronically and available worldwide.
