Product description

Most enterprise Wi-Fi 6E deployments run three bands with a shared scanning function that pulls service radio time whenever it monitors the spectrum. The FAP-441K changes the math: four independent radios run simultaneously, with 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz each doing 4×4 MU-MIMO at full speed and a fourth dedicated radio scanning all three bands continuously without touching any service channel. Add dual 10G multigigabit Ethernet, a built-in BLE/ZigBee sensor, and an integrated GPS receiver, and the result is an access point built for sites where every radio has a specific, uninterrupted job.

Where the FAP-441K Performs Best

The dedicated scanning radio makes the FAP-441K a fit for environments where RF monitoring cannot borrow time from client-serving radios. Conference centers, hospital wings, university lecture halls, and large open-plan offices are common deployments — sites where client density is high, rogue AP detection runs around the clock, and 802.11be multi-link operation (MLO) gives each client access to the best available channel combination across bands. The dual 10G uplinks mean both LAN1 and LAN2 can run at wire speed simultaneously, useful in link-aggregation or failover configurations.

Hardware Alone vs. a Bundle

FAP-441K-A is hardware only. The AP connects to a FortiGate, FortiEdge Cloud, or Fortinet SASE controller — the management license is not included in this purchase. If an existing FortiGate already has an active FortiAP seat count, this unit slots in under that umbrella. For ongoing TAC support, firmware updates, and RMA coverage on the AP itself, add a FortiCare contract: FC-10-FP41K-247-02-12 (Premium 1yr) is the standard starting point for production sites.

Who Runs the FAP-441K

Network teams upgrading from Wi-Fi 6 or 6E to Wi-Fi 7 in dense indoor environments are the primary buyers. Compliance-driven organizations running PCI-DSS, HIPAA, or campus security policies value the dedicated scanning radio because it delivers continuous WIPS/WIDS monitoring without degrading client throughput — something a single-scanning-radio AP cannot do at scale. For greenfield Wi-Fi 7 deployments that need external antenna flexibility, the FAP-443K is the direct counterpart.

Moving Up

The next-tier model above the FAP-441K is the FAP-443K-A, which shares the same Wi-Fi 7 four-radio architecture and dual 10G Ethernet but uses external RPSMA antenna connectors instead of the 441K’s internal antennas. Choose the 441K for clean ceiling installs where aesthetics matter; choose the 443K where directional antenna tuning is needed or the RF environment requires external antenna flexibility.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca stocks the FAP-441K-A as an authorized Fortinet Select Partner in Canada. Units ship within 0-1 business days at no charge to any Canadian address, brand new and sourced directly from Fortinet’s authorized supply chain. GPI-145 power injectors and FortiCare support contracts for the 441K are available in the same order — contact DataCenter360.ca to quote a complete kit.

Does the FAP-441K-A require 802.3bt PoE, or will standard 802.3at work?
802.3bt (PoE++) is required for full performance — all four service radios active at maximum Tx power with USB enabled. On 802.3at (PoE+), the AP drops the three service radios to 2×2 MIMO at 17 dBm Tx, the scanning radio remains active, and USB is disabled. For production Wi-Fi 7 performance use a GPI-145 injector or a switch with 802.3bt ports on both LAN1 and LAN2.
What FortiOS version is needed to manage the FAP-441K?
The FAP-441K requires FortiOS 7.4 or later on the managing FortiGate, paired with FortiAP OS 7.4.x or later for 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7) feature support. Fortinet added Wi-Fi 7 management capabilities incrementally across 7.4.x firmware. Verify current compatibility in Fortinet’s release notes before deploying into an existing FortiGate estate.
Is the 6 GHz band available in Canada on the FAP-441K-A (Region Code A)?
Yes. ISED has approved the 6 GHz band for low-power indoor use in Canada under RSS-248. The FAP-441K-A (Region Code A) supports 6 GHz operation in compliance with ISED rules. Some upper 6 GHz sub-bands (U-NII-6/7/8) carry additional restrictions — consult ISED RSS-248 for the applicable channel table for your deployment location.
Can the FAP-441K be managed by FortiEdge Cloud instead of a local FortiGate?
Yes. The FAP-441K supports FortiEdge Cloud (formerly FortiAP Cloud) management and Fortinet SASE-based management. This suits distributed sites or managed service providers who need centralized visibility without a local controller at each location. FortiEdge Cloud licensing is separate from the AP hardware purchase.
What is the difference between the FAP-441K and the FAP-443K?
Both are Wi-Fi 7 quad-radio indoor APs with identical RF capabilities: 4×4 MU-MIMO on 2.4/5/6 GHz service radios, a dedicated tri-band scanning radio, and dual 10G multigigabit Ethernet. The FAP-441K has 10 internal antennas for a clean ceiling profile; the FAP-443K uses 10 external RPSMA connectors for deployments where directional or high-gain antennas are needed. Throughput and client-capacity specs are the same on both models.
