Product description

Four radios, Wi-Fi 7, dual 10-gigabit Ethernet ports, and external antennas — the FAP-443K-A is built for enterprise spaces where wireless density and spectrum demand outgrow what a standard AP can handle. Whether you are covering a large open floor plan, a high-ceiling warehouse, or a multi-tenant office block, the 443K puts four simultaneous RF chains to work across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz while a dedicated scanning radio monitors the full spectrum continuously.

Where the FAP-443K-A Performs Best

The 443K’s external-antenna design suits deployments where AP placement and antenna orientation matter: high bay areas, long corridors, or spaces where signal shaping around partitions or structural obstacles is a priority. The dedicated scanning radio means WIPS/WIDS monitoring runs without taking capacity away from client-serving radios — a meaningful operational difference in environments with security posture requirements. The dual 10G ports also allow link aggregation or failover in wiring closets that already have multigigabit switch uplinks.

Hardware Alone vs Bundle

The FAP-443K-A ships without a FortiCare support contract. For day-two access to TAC, hardware replacement, and firmware entitlements, pair the hardware with FC-10-FP43K-247-02-12 (FortiCare Premium, 1-year). If your organization wants the full Elite-level priority RMA from day one, stack a Premium contract first and then apply FC-10-FP43K-204-02-12 as the Elite upgrade. Running the 443K without any FortiCare is an option for labs or test environments, but not recommended for production.

Who Runs the FAP-443K-A

Network teams at enterprise organizations deploying Fortinet fabric environments under FortiGate, FortiEdge Cloud, or Fortinet SASE management. The 443K fits naturally into a FortiManager-managed AP fleet where consistent WIPS policy, zero-trust network access rules, and Bluetooth locationing all run from the same management plane as the firewall. Canadian organizations in healthcare, financial services, and regulated manufacturing tend to standardize on the 443K where 6 GHz spectrum and high per-AP capacity are the critical factors.

Moving Up: Higher-Tier FortiAP Options

For deployments requiring even higher density or outdoor/semi-outdoor coverage at enterprise scale, the FAP-831F-A is the next step up in the Fortinet lineup. It targets high-capacity indoor environments where the 443K’s four-radio design is still not enough throughput headroom per AP. If wireless security and VPN integration matter more than raw throughput, the FortiWiFi 50G (FWF-50G-A) bundles Wi-Fi with a firewall in a single desktop unit — a different use case, but a natural next conversation for branch consolidation projects.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca ships the FAP-443K-A to Canadian customers from in-stock inventory, typically within 0–1 business days. As a Fortinet Select Partner, we support the full procurement cycle: hardware-only purchase, add-on FortiCare contracts, and bulk orders for staged rollouts. If you are building a multi-AP deployment and want all units shipped together with pre-matched support contracts, contact us before ordering and we will coordinate the entire package.

What power injector does the FAP-443K-A require?
The 443K requires 802.3bt PoE (60W class). Fortinet’s recommended injector is the GPI-145. A standard 802.3at (30W) PoE switch port will power the AP in a reduced mode with lower transmit power and 2×2 chains — adequate for testing but not recommended for production. For full performance, use an 802.3bt-capable switch port or the GPI-145 injector.

Is the 6 GHz band active in Canada with the -A region code?
The -A region code includes North America. 6 GHz (Wi-Fi 7) operation is available in Canada under ISED AFC rules for standard-power operation. Your FortiGate or FortiEdge Cloud controller must be configured with the correct country code to enable the band. Consult Fortinet’s current regulatory documentation for the latest ISED channel and power rules.

Can the FAP-443K-A run in mesh mode?
Yes. The 443K supports Local-Bridge, Mesh, and Tunnel SSID modes. Mesh links use one of the radios, so plan radio allocation accordingly in high-density mesh topologies to avoid capacity loss on client-serving bands.

Does the FAP-443K-A need a FortiGate to operate?
No. The 443K can be managed by FortiGate, FortiEdge Cloud, or Fortinet SASE. FortiEdge Cloud management means you do not need an on-premises FortiGate — the AP connects to the cloud management plane directly. Local SSID configuration via the AP itself is also possible in local-bridge mode for simple setups.

Is a FortiCare contract included with the hardware?
No. The FAP-443K-A ships as hardware only. FortiCare Premium (FC-10-FP43K-247-02-12) covers TAC support and hardware replacement and is sold separately. For new deployments, add a FortiCare contract at the same time as the hardware purchase to ensure coverage starts from day one.
