FortiGate Rugged firewalls models

Grouped by series, smallest to largest. Every model is a hardened, fanless FortiGate NGFW rated IP40 with a −40°C to 75°C operating range. Click a series to see its models and pick the right variant. Threat protection is the number to size on, it reflects full inspection running (IPS, antivirus, application control).

Why a ruggedized FortiGate instead of a standard appliance?
  • Built for harsh sites: −40°C to +75°C operating range, fanless sealed chassis, IP40 dust protection, DIN-rail or wall mount, and shock/vibration tolerance for factories, substations, roadside cabinets and vehicles.
  • Same FortiOS and Security Fabric as every FortiGate, purpose-built for OT/ICS: protocol-aware controls and segmentation for industrial networks.
  • Embedded 5G/LTE and dual-SIM options keep remote and mobile sites online where there is no fixed broadband.
  • An M12 X-coded connector variant suits rail, transport and vehicle deployments that need locking, vibration-proof ports.

Still supported

Legacy models: renewals available

No longer sold as new hardware, but your existing FortiGate Rugged units can still be renewed and supported. Keep them current with genuine FortiCare and FortiGuard renewals until the last service date.

What the dates mean
  • EOO (End of Order): last date the hardware could be ordered new from Fortinet.
  • LSED (Last Service Extension Date): the deadline that matters. Last date you can buy or renew FortiCare support and FortiGuard subscriptions. After this, the unit can no longer be renewed.
  • EOS (End of Support): final date Fortinet provides support or firmware. After this the device is fully unsupported.
A FortiGate Rugged is Legacy between EOO and LSED (renewable). Once it passes LSED it becomes End-of-Life.

Where FortiGate Rugged fits

Deployments we size FortiGate Rugged for

Utilities & substations

Hardened firewalls for power, water and grid sites that need wide-temperature, fanless hardware and OT segmentation.

Manufacturing & factory OT

Protocol-aware policy and internal segmentation for plant-floor networks and industrial control systems.

Oil, gas & mining

Sealed, vibration-tolerant appliances for remote and hazardous sites, with embedded cellular backhaul.

Transportation & rail

M12 X-coded locking ports and dual-5G connectivity for rolling stock, roadside cabinets and fleet vehicles.

Outdoor & roadside cabinets

DIN-rail or wall-mount NGFWs that survive heat, cold and dust where standard appliances cannot.

Secure SD-WAN over 5G/LTE

Built-in SD-WAN with embedded cellular failover keeps remote sites connected and protected on a single box.

FortiGuard subscriptions

What security services do you add?

A FortiGate Rugged appliance enforces firewall and SD-WAN on its own. To turn on threat protection, you add a FortiGuard bundle, the same subscriptions as any FortiGate. Three tiers, billed per appliance per term (1, 3 or 5 years).

Entry

ATP bundle

FortiCare support plus core threat protection: IPS, antivirus, application control and inline malware prevention. Good for smaller rugged sites that need solid protection on a budget.

Most popular

UTP bundle

Everything in ATP plus web/DNS filtering, anti-botnet and more FortiGuard services. The common choice for most industrial and remote deployments.

Complete

Enterprise bundle

The full FortiGuard catalog, including OT security service, plus SD-WAN underlay, attack-surface and SOC/NOC services. For OT/ICS sites that want everything on.

Not sure which tier? Ask us to scope it for your site, and we will recommend the smallest bundle that covers you.

FAQ

FortiGate Rugged firewalls, common questions

It runs the same FortiOS, firewall, SD-WAN and FortiGuard security, but in a hardened chassis built for harsh sites: fanless and sealed, IP40 rated, with a −40°C to 75°C operating range and DIN-rail or wall mounting. Several models add embedded 5G/LTE and an M12 X-coded connector option.

Industrial and outdoor sites where a standard appliance would fail: factory floors, utility substations, oil, gas and mining sites, transportation and rail, and roadside or outdoor cabinets. The wide-temperature, fanless design tolerates heat, cold, dust and vibration.

Yes. FortiGate Rugged is purpose-built for operational technology: it provides protocol-aware controls and internal segmentation for industrial control systems, and joins the Fortinet Security Fabric so OT and IT are managed under one policy model. The Enterprise FortiGuard bundle adds the OT security service.

The 50G-5G, 70G-5G and 70G-5G-DUAL have embedded 5G (the DUAL adds two modems and SIM slots for always-on links), while the 60F-3G4G and 70F-3G4G have embedded 3G/4G LTE. They keep remote and mobile sites online where there is no fixed broadband.

Yes, for threat protection. The appliance handles firewall and SD-WAN on its own, but IPS, antivirus, web filtering, OT security and the rest come from a FortiGuard bundle (ATP, UTP or Enterprise) billed per appliance per term. We can scope the right tier for you.
