The FortiGate 401E is the SSD-equipped member of the FortiGate 400E family for enterprise-edge and mid-to-large campus sites that need local logging and reporting. It pairs 16 Gigabit RJ45 ports and 16 GE SFP slots with Fortinet's NP6 and CP9 SPUs to deliver 7.8 Gbps IPS, 6 Gbps NGFW, 5 Gbps of threat protection, 32 Gbps firewall throughput and 4 million concurrent sessions, and adds two 240 GB onboard SSDs on standard AC power. It runs FortiOS with built-in SD-WAN and ZTNA enforcement.
The 400E generation reached end of order, but the FortiGate 401E is still in stock, brand new, and fully supported — FortiGuard, FortiCare and RMA renewals run through 2030. When you are ready to move to the current generation, the FortiGate 400F is the direct successor with roughly 2.5x the firewall throughput. See the lineup below.

All three share the same NP6 + CP9 platform and 400E-class performance. The 401E adds two 240 GB onboard SSDs for local logging on standard AC power. The 401E-DC has the same SSDs but runs on -48V DC power for telco and data-center plant; the base 400E has no onboard storage.
It delivers 32 Gbps firewall throughput, 7.8 Gbps IPS, 6 Gbps NGFW, 5 Gbps threat protection and 4.8 Gbps SSL inspection, with 4 million concurrent sessions and 450,000 new sessions per second, on Fortinet’s NP6 and CP9 SPUs.
The 400E line is end-of-order but remains fully serviceable: FortiGuard security subscriptions, FortiCare support and Secure RMA can be renewed through to end of support in 2030. We can quote any remaining term, or scope a migration to the FortiGate 400F.
