End-of-sale high-density data center switch (48x GE/10GE SFP/SFP+ + 6x 40GE QSFP+ or 4x 100GE QSFP28, data only, 1.76 Tbps switching, FortiLink-managed). The FS-1048E hardware is no longer stocked - the current, in-stock replacement is the FortiSwitch 2048F. See the upgrade path below.

The FortiSwitch 1048E is a high-density data center switch from Fortinet's 1000-series - 48 ports of 1/10 GE on SFP/SFP+ plus a choice of six 40GE QSFP+ or four 100GE QSFP28 high-speed uplinks, data only (no PoE), with 1.76 Tbps of switching capacity and sub-microsecond latency in a 1RU chassis. Built for top-of-rack server connectivity and spine aggregation, it carries dual hot-swappable AC power supplies and Layer 2/3 FortiSwitchOS. Managed over FortiLink from any FortiGate, it folds the data center fabric into the Security Fabric so switching and security share one console.
The 1048E has reached end of sale and is no longer stocked as new hardware. The current, in-stock replacement is the FortiSwitch 2048F - the same high-density 48-port data-center role, upgraded to 25 GbE SFP28 server ports and 100 GbE QSFP28 uplinks with greater switching capacity. For a 24-port 10 GbE switch on the same platform, see the FortiSwitch 1024E. See the upgrade path below, or contact us for migration help.

The 1048E is end of sale. The FortiSwitch 2048F is the direct, currently-shipping replacement – the same high-density 48-port data-center role with 25 GbE SFP28 server ports, 100 GbE QSFP28 uplinks and more switching capacity. Step down to the 24-port FortiSwitch 1024E if you need fewer ports. Same FortiSwitchOS and FortiLink management across the range.
10GE SFP+ and 40GE QSFP+ uplink transceivers for the fiber ports. Current 100 GbE optics carry over to the FortiSwitch 2048F.
No. The FortiSwitch 1048E (FS-1048E) has reached end of sale and is no longer stocked as new hardware. The current, in-stock replacement is the FortiSwitch 2048F – we can quote it and help you migrate.

Over FortiLink from any FortiGate firewall, so switching and security were managed in one console with no separate controller. It could also run standalone. The 2048F keeps the same FortiLink management.
Yes. As a Fortinet Select Partner we can spec the right current FortiSwitch, match port, uplink and capacity needs, and quote hardware plus FortiCare. Hardware ships free and fast; licensing is delivered electronically worldwide.
