Some jurisdictions and regulated programs cannot import firewalls that ship with strong VPN cryptography. The FortiGate Rugged 60F-LENC (FGR-60F-LENC) exists for those cases: it is the low-encryption (LENC) build of the rugged 60F, with the same fanless, -40°C to 75°C industrial chassis and dual redundant DC power, but with high-strength encryption removed so it meets export and import rules where the standard model is restricted. This is the appliance on its own, with no FortiGuard subscription attached. Buy this variant only when a low-encryption unit is specifically required; for most deployments the standard FGR-60F is the right choice.

What the LENC build means

The hardware is identical to the standard Rugged 60F: FortiSoC4 ASIC, fanless sealed chassis, DIN-rail or wall mount, redundant DC inputs, TPM, and IEC 61850-3 / IEEE 1613 utility certification. The difference is cryptographic. LENC firmware removes strong IPsec and SSL-VPN cryptography and deep SSL inspection, which depend on high-strength ciphers. Stateful firewalling, network segmentation, SD-WAN path control, and IPS or application control on unencrypted traffic continue to work once a FortiGuard service is applied.

Who orders the LENC variant

This unit is for buyers who are explicitly required to deploy low-encryption hardware, typically because of import controls or a customer mandate in a regulated market. If you can deploy standard cryptography, the regular FGR-60F gives you full IPsec VPN and SSL inspection at a similar price and is the simpler choice. If you are unsure which applies to your project, ask before ordering, because the encryption capability cannot be changed after purchase.

Appliance alone, or a bundle?

As with the standard model, the bare appliance suits a refresh where licensing already exists, while a bundle adds FortiCare Premium and a FortiGuard tier for a new rollout. The FortiGuard inspection services (IPS, antivirus, web and OT filtering) apply to the LENC unit the same way; only the encryption-dependent VPN and SSL-inspection features are limited by the low-encryption firmware.

Stepping up

If you need more capacity in a rugged form factor, the FortiGate Rugged 70F is the next model in the line. Where strong encryption is permitted, the standard FGR-60F is the natural alternative and unlocks full VPN and SSL inspection.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

What does LENC mean on a FortiGate?
LENC stands for low encryption. The firmware removes strong IPsec and SSL-VPN cryptography and deep SSL inspection so the appliance can be sold into markets with import or export restrictions on high-strength encryption.
Should I buy LENC or the standard Rugged 60F?
Order LENC only when a low-encryption unit is specifically required by regulation or a customer mandate. If strong encryption is allowed, the standard FGR-60F gives you full VPN and SSL inspection and is the better default.
Can the LENC unit still run IPS and OT inspection?
Yes. Firewalling, segmentation, SD-WAN, and FortiGuard services such as IPS, antivirus, and Industrial Security work once a subscription is applied. Only the encryption-dependent VPN and deep SSL inspection are limited.
Is a FortiGuard subscription included?
No. This SKU is hardware only. FortiGuard subscriptions and FortiCare support are sold separately or as a bundle.
Do you ship the FGR-60F-LENC in Canada?
Yes. DataCenter360.ca stocks it brand new with free, fast shipping across Canada, usually 0 to 1 business day, with authorized Fortinet partner support.
