What this service covers

The OT Security Service is delivered as regularly updated FortiGuard signature packages, not a firmware feature toggle. Three components ship under this SKU:

• OT device detection: a signature package that identifies OT/ICS devices on the network and surfaces metadata for each one, used by the FortiGate’s Device Detection function per interface.
• OT vulnerability correlation and virtual patching: maps known vulnerabilities against detected OT devices and lets the 1800F-DC apply a virtual patch inline, shielding equipment that cannot be immediately updated at the controller or PLC level.
• OT Application Control and IPS: additional signatures covering industrial protocols and applications (SCADA, Modbus-class traffic, and similar), enforced through the FortiGate’s Application Control and IPS profiles.

All three ride on the FortiGate 1800F-DC’s existing inspection engines. Firewall throughput on the 1800F platform is rated at 198 Gbps (1518-byte UDP), with 22 Gbps of IPS throughput and 17 Gbps NGFW throughput on the Enterprise traffic mix, so OT signature inspection runs alongside standard IT firewall policy without a separate appliance.

Who needs it

This service is built for sites where the 1800F-DC sits at the IT/OT boundary: utility substations, telco central offices, manufacturing plants, and similar critical-infrastructure environments running the DC-power variant of the 1800F. If the deployment includes PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, or other industrial controllers behind the FortiGate, the device-detection and virtual-patching pieces are the parts that matter most, since many of those controllers can’t be patched on the same schedule as IT servers.

Activation & delivery

FC-10-D18HF-159-02-36 is a license only, electronic delivery, no physical hardware ships with this SKU. After purchase the license key is applied to a FortiGate 1800F-DC already registered on the FortiCloud/support portal, and the OT signature package becomes available for download the same way FortiGuard AV/IPS updates already do. Delivery is worldwide since it’s electronic; only the FortiGate hardware itself is a Canada-only shipment.

One service vs. the bundle

OT Security is sold à la carte. Fortinet’s FortiGuard ordering guide does not include it in the standard Enterprise, UTP, or ATP bundle SKUs, so a 1800F-DC running Enterprise or UTP still needs this SKU added separately to get OT device detection and virtual patching. Buyers who also want the IT-focused services (application control on general traffic, web/DNS filtering, sandboxing) should pair this with an Enterprise or UTP bundle rather than expect this SKU to substitute for one.
