This subscription fits deployments where the 1800F-DC sits between a corporate network and a production floor, substation, pipeline, or other OT environment, and where IT and OT traffic converge on the same appliance. Utilities, manufacturers, oil and gas operators, and data-center-adjacent facilities running DC power (the reason the 1800F-DC exists in the first place) are the typical buyers. Because the DC-powered chassis is common in telco central offices and industrial control rooms, pairing it with OT-aware inspection is a natural fit rather than an edge case.

Activation and delivery

Like every FortiGuard subscription, this one is issued electronically and registered against the FortiGate 1800F-DC’s serial number, so there’s no physical shipment involved. Once applied, the appliance downloads OT device signatures and industrial protocol IPS updates for the full five-year term. The unit needs an existing FortiGuard bundle (ATP, UTP, or Enterprise) and a current FortiCare contract, since OT Security is a supplemental à la carte service rather than a bundle by itself.

OT Security vs. the FortiGuard bundles

OT Security isn’t part of the ATP, UTP, or Enterprise bundle matrix, so upgrading a bundle tier won’t add it. It’s ordered separately and stacks on whichever bundle the 1800F-DC already runs, filling a gap none of the three tiers cover: recognition and enforcement for OT-specific protocols and industrial applications. Sites without OT traffic on this firewall don’t need it; sites that do won’t get equivalent coverage from a higher bundle tier alone.
