Product description

Industrial and operational technology networks present a different threat surface than typical enterprise IT environments. This 1-year FortiGuard OT Security Service subscription (FC-10-F201F-159-02-12) equips a FortiGate-201F with a dedicated intelligence layer built specifically for OT environments: detecting OT applications and protocols, correlating vulnerabilities found in field devices, and delivering virtual patches before a firmware fix is even available. It ships electronically, with no hardware, no customs, and no waiting.

What the OT Security Service Covers

This subscription activates five distinct OT-focused capabilities on the FortiGate-201F:

  • OT Dashboards and Compliance Reports: Purpose-built views of your OT network’s security posture, mapped to common industrial compliance frameworks including IEC 62443.
  • OT Application and Service Detection: Identifies industrial protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and EtherNet/IP, and classifies OT application traffic in real time.
  • OT Vulnerability Correlation: Cross-references detected OT devices and firmware versions against the FortiGuard OT vulnerability database to surface known exposures in field hardware.
  • OT Virtual Patching: Applies IPS-layer protection rules that block exploitation of known OT vulnerabilities on devices that cannot receive direct firmware updates, a critical capability for PLCs, HMIs, and RTUs with fixed firmware cycles.
  • OT Signatures (Application Control and IPS Rules): Specialized rulesets that add OT-aware depth to the FortiGate’s standard IPS and application control policy engines, keeping detection current as new OT threats emerge.

Who Runs This Service

The FC-10-F201F-159-02-12 subscription suits organizations where the FortiGate-201F sits at the boundary between an IT network and an OT segment, or directly inside an OT zone. Typical environments include manufacturing plants, water treatment facilities, energy distribution infrastructure, building automation systems, and other critical infrastructure where compliance with IEC 62443 or NERC CIP frameworks is part of the security posture conversation.

The FortiGate-201F is a mid-range enterprise firewall with sufficient throughput to inspect OT protocol traffic inline without adding latency that upsets process control timing, making it a practical choice for medium-sized OT segments that need layer-7 visibility and enforcement.

Activation and Delivery

After ordering, DataCenter360.ca processes the subscription through Fortinet’s licensing portal and delivers the activation code or contract confirmation by email, typically within 0 to 1 business days. Activation is completed in the FortiGate-201F GUI under System > FortiGuard, or via FortiManager if centralized management is in use. The license term begins on the date of activation, not the order date, so it can be applied at a planned maintenance window without losing coverage time.

OT Security vs. the Standard FortiGuard Bundles

The Enterprise (809), UTP (950), and ATP (811) subscription bundles cover a broad set of IT-facing FortiGuard services, including IPS, antimalware, and URL filtering, but they do not include the OT Security Service. OT-specific capabilities require this separate à-la-carte license.

If the FortiGate-201F also protects a standard enterprise network in addition to an OT segment, the typical deployment pairs an Enterprise or UTP bundle with this OT Security Service. The two licenses operate independently and are applied to the same device registration in the Fortinet support portal.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca serves OT and IT security teams worldwide as an authorized Fortinet Select Partner. This subscription is sold for electronic delivery at any location: no import restrictions, no shipping timelines, and no regional purchase limitations apply to licensing. Multi-year terms (3-year and 5-year) are available if a longer coverage window fits your budget or compliance cycle. Contact us for volume or multi-device pricing on OT-secured deployments.

Does the OT Security Service work alongside the Enterprise or UTP bundle?
Yes. The FC-10-F201F-159-02-12 is an independent add-on license. If the FortiGate-201F already has an Enterprise or UTP bundle applied, adding the OT Security Service activates the OT-specific features on top of the existing subscription without replacing or conflicting with it. Both licenses are registered to the same device.

Is the OT Security Service included in any FortiGuard bundle?
No. The FortiGuard OT Security Service is an à-la-carte service only. It is not included in the ATP, UTP, or Enterprise protection bundles. Organizations that need OT-specific threat detection and virtual patching must purchase it as a separate subscription.

Can this subscription be ordered from outside Canada?
Yes. Software licenses and subscriptions are delivered electronically and are not subject to hardware export restrictions. DataCenter360.ca processes and delivers FortiGuard OT Security Service licenses to customers worldwide, regardless of location.

What happens when the 1-year term expires?
Once the subscription lapses, the OT-specific features including dashboards, OT device detection, vulnerability correlation, virtual patching, and OT signatures stop updating on the FortiGate-201F. The device continues to function under any other active licenses, but OT-layer protection becomes stale. Renewing before expiry avoids a gap in coverage. Service extensions remain available through the FortiGate-201F’s Last Service Extension Date of March 1, 2030.

What is OT virtual patching and why does it matter?
Virtual patching uses IPS signatures on the FortiGate to block known exploit attempts against vulnerable OT devices such as PLCs, HMIs, and RTUs that cannot easily receive firmware updates. When FortiGuard publishes a new OT vulnerability signature, the FortiGate applies it at the network layer, providing protection without requiring the OT vendor to issue a patch or the operator to take the device offline for maintenance.
