Product description

Migrating to a new firewall is rarely about the hardware. It is the configuration that takes the time and carries the risk. The FortiWiFi 31G 1-Year FortiConverter Service (FC-10-WF31G-189-02-12) gives you Fortinet’s conversion tooling to move an existing policy set, from a third-party firewall or an older FortiGate, onto the FortiWiFi 31G with far less hand-rebuilding. It is a subscription service with no hardware, delivered electronically worldwide.

What FortiConverter does

FortiConverter automates the translation work that would otherwise be manual and error-prone:

  • Config conversion: firewall rules, address and service objects, NAT, and routing from a supported source platform are translated into FortiOS equivalents for the 31G.
  • Third-party and FortiGate sources: common competitor firewalls and older FortiGate configurations are supported as migration sources.
  • Cleaner cutover: converting the rule base instead of retyping it reduces the dropped rules and typos that cause post-migration outages.
  • Term of access: the subscription covers the conversion work during its one-year window, which is normally all a single migration needs.

Who needs it

This service fits anyone replacing an incumbent firewall with a FortiWiFi 31G who does not want to rebuild a working policy set by hand: a business switching vendors, an MSP standing up a client on Fortinet, or an IT team retiring an older FortiGate and carrying its rules forward. The larger and older the rule base, the more the conversion saves.

Activation and delivery

The entitlement is issued electronically and associated with a FortiWiFi 31G by serial number. It is generally bought for a specific migration, used while you cut over, and not renewed once the 31G is live. Nothing ships, and the converted configuration should be reviewed and tuned before it goes into production.

A migration tool, not ongoing protection

FortiConverter helps you stand the 31G up; it does not defend it afterward. The day-to-day security, IPS, antivirus, web filtering, comes from the UTP or Enterprise bundle, which is what keeps the firewall protected once the migrated config is running. It is worth lining up that coverage as part of the same project so the new device is defended from its first day in service.

Buying from DataCenter360.ca

DataCenter360.ca, an authorized Fortinet Select Partner, delivers this service electronically to customers in any country. If you are planning a cutover to the 31G, tell us what platform you are migrating from and roughly how large the rule base is, and we will confirm it is a supported source and point you to the security subscription the device should run once it is live.

FortiWiFi 31G FortiConverter: Frequently Asked Questions

Does this include the FortiWiFi 31G hardware?
No. FortiConverter is a migration service tied to a FortiWiFi 31G you already own or are buying separately. The appliance is not part of this SKU.
What can FortiConverter migrate from?
It converts configurations from supported third-party firewalls and from older FortiGate devices, translating rules, address and service objects, NAT, and routing into FortiOS for the 31G.
Is this an ongoing security subscription?
No. It is a migration tool used to stand the device up. Ongoing protection such as IPS, antivirus, and web filtering comes from the UTP or Enterprise bundle, which the 31G should run once it is in production.
Can I buy this from outside Canada?
Yes. The service is delivered electronically and available worldwide, with no physical shipment.
Do I need to renew it every year?
Usually not. It is typically bought for a specific migration and used within its one-year access window, then left to lapse once the 31G is live. It can be renewed under the same SKU if another migration calls for it.
