What This Service Turns On

With OT Security active, the FWF 50G-5G-II can identify OT equipment by protocol fingerprint and device type, detect PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and industrial sensors on the same network as office workstations. OT vulnerability correlation flags assets with known CVEs from the FortiGuard OT threat database. Virtual patching applies IPS rules that block exploit attempts targeting unpatched OT vulnerabilities, providing a compensating control while device firmware updates move through maintenance windows. Industrial protocol IPS and application control rules cover Modbus, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, BACnet, and other OT-specific communications.

Practical Uses

This subscription works for pilot deployments, annual budget cycles that don’t yet support multi-year commitments, and organizations testing OT visibility before upgrading to an Enterprise bundle. A 1-year term also makes sense when a facility is transitioning to a new firewall model and doesn’t want to pre-purchase a longer subscription on a device being phased out.
