Product description

Every one of the 48 access ports delivers PoE+. That’s the defining characteristic of the FortiSwitch 148F-FPOE — a 740W power budget spread across all 48 GE RJ45 ports, backed by 10GE SFP+ uplinks and the FortiLink fabric. When you’re deploying wall-to-wall Wi-Fi 6 APs, a dense IP camera grid, or a floor of PoE-powered thin clients, this is the switch that covers it without compromise.

What’s in the Box

The FS-148F-FPOE ships as a 1RU rack-mountable unit with rack-mount hardware, power cable, and console cable. All 48 GE RJ45 ports are 802.3af/at capable from the factory — no configuration needed to enable PoE on individual ports. The unit sits alongside the FS-148F (no PoE) and FS-148F-POE (24 PoE ports) in the 100F SecureAccess line.

Where It Fits Best

The FPOE variant earns its place in deployments where the ratio of powered devices to access ports runs close to 1:1. A dense open-plan office with a Wi-Fi 6 AP for every 4 to 6 users, a surveillance-heavy retail floor, a healthcare ward with PoE-powered workstations and call panels — these are scenarios where the 740W budget and 48-port full PoE coverage justify the unit over a partial-PoE alternative.

The 10GE SFP+ uplinks separate the 148F-FPOE from the 200-series PoE switches: those provide GE SFP uplinks, while the 100F gives you genuine 10GE uplink capacity for a heavier aggregated load. At 260 Mpps throughput and sub-microsecond latency, the switch won’t slow down even under full PoE load.

Hardware Alone vs. Adding a Service

The FS-148F-FPOE includes the hardware and FortiLink integration at no extra licensing cost. FortiCare Premium (FC-10-148FF-247) is the optional support contract that adds TAC access, priority RMA, and firmware updates specific to the switch. For a production floor switch carrying 48 powered endpoints, having an active FortiCare contract shortens hardware replacement time significantly in the event of a failure.

Who Runs This Switch

IT architects and network engineers sizing out high-density, fully wireless-capable branch floors choose the 148F-FPOE when they want a single switch to cover the entire floor — no worrying about which ports have PoE and which don’t, no rationing of a partial budget. Hospitality, healthcare, education, and open-plan offices with blanket Wi-Fi coverage are common deployments. Teams running a FortiGate SD-Branch stack appreciate consistent FortiLink policy management across all ports without port-specific PoE planning at the switch level.

Moving Up

The 148F-FPOE is the top of the 100F PoE line for 48-port access. For the next tier — 48 ports with L2/3 routing capability and the same full PoE coverage — the FS-248E-FPOE adds static and dynamic routing to the feature set. It uses GE SFP uplinks rather than 10GE SFP+, so the 148F-FPOE remains the better choice when uplink bandwidth is a priority.

What is the per-port PoE power allocation on the FS-148F-FPOE?

The total PoE budget is 740W shared across all 48 ports. 802.3at (PoE+) supports up to 30W per port; 802.3af supports up to 15.4W per port. If all 48 ports are populated with PoE+ devices at 30W each, the required budget would exceed 1,400W — so in practice, average per-port draw at your device mix determines whether the 740W ceiling is sufficient. Most real deployments run well under that ceiling.

Is a PoE budget license or additional configuration required to enable full PoE?

No. All 48 PoE ports are active by default. There is no per-port PoE license required. You can set per-port power limits or disable PoE on individual ports through the FortiGate switch controller or the switch’s standalone management interface.

Can I mix 802.3af and 802.3at devices on the same switch?

Yes. The 148F-FPOE auto-negotiates PoE class per port. 802.3af devices receive up to 15.4W; 802.3at devices receive up to 30W. Both types can be connected simultaneously in any port combination — the switch manages the total 740W budget across the mix automatically.

Does the FS-148F-FPOE support redundant power supply?

The 148F-FPOE has a single built-in AC power supply (100-240V). A dedicated external redundant PSU option (FRPS-740) is available for the 200-series switches that share the same PoE budget range, but the 100F series does not support an external redundant PSU. Plan accordingly for mission-critical deployments.

Is the FortiSwitch 148F-FPOE available for purchase and delivery in Canada?

Yes. DataCenter360.ca carries the FS-148F-FPOE in Canadian stock. Orders typically ship same day for placements before 2 PM ET, with delivery in 0–1 business days at no shipping cost. Units arrive brand new with Fortinet’s limited lifetime hardware warranty.
