A 48-port access switch at 1GE per port stops matching the network when the floor is full of Wi-Fi 6 APs, video endpoints, and workstations that routinely push past a gigabit. The FortiSwitch 648F gives each of its 48 RJ45 access ports a variable speed of 1G, 2.5G, or 5G, auto-negotiated per device. The switching fabric runs at 720 Gbps with 1,071 Mpps forwarding and sub-microsecond latency, so multi-gig ports at the edge do not cause congestion further into the stack. Eight 25GE SFP28 uplinks provide distribution-layer bandwidth without a separate aggregation switch in front of it.
