Who Picks the 3-Year Term

The 3-year Elite subscription suits IT teams that are a year or two into a deployment cycle and want to align the remaining life of the appliance with a single-term contract. Organizations with budget cycles tied to 3-year periods also find this term cleaner to manage than a mix of 1-year renewals. It is a particularly good fit for FortiGate 51G-5G units deployed in branch offices where 5G cellular backup is part of the business continuity plan and the site cannot tolerate slow support escalation.

Activation and Delivery

This is an electronic-only subscription. The license key is emailed within one business day of a confirmed order. Activate through the Fortinet Support portal using the unit’s serial number. The 3-year term begins on the activation date, not the order date, giving you flexibility to time the start with your current contract expiry. No hardware is included.

FortiCare Elite vs. FortiGuard Bundles

You cannot extend an active contract retroactively, but you can purchase a 5-year Elite subscription to begin at the end of the 3-year term. Order it before expiry to ensure continuous coverage. Fortinet will stack the terms when you register the new key against the same serial number.

How does the 15-minute critical response SLA work in practice?
When you open a P1 support case, a Fortinet Elite support engineer engages within 15 minutes. This does not mean the issue is resolved in 15 minutes; it means the clock on expert engagement starts immediately. This SLA applies to critical priority cases opened through the Fortinet Support portal or phone and is active 24/7/365.

Is the Elite monitoring portal included for all three years?
Yes. Access to the FortiCare Elite monitoring portal is an entitlement of the Elite subscription and remains active for the full 3-year term. If the contract lapses or is downgraded, portal access ends with the Elite coverage.

Does this SKU require existing FortiCare coverage to activate?
No. Service code 284 is a standalone FortiCare Elite subscription, not an upgrade. You do not need an existing Premium or Essential contract to activate it. It can be applied to a new FortiGate 51G-5G unit or one that currently has no active FortiCare subscription.

Is this the same as a UTP or Enterprise FortiGuard subscription?
No. FortiCare Elite covers technical support and hardware replacement SLAs.
