Not every organization can ship a failed appliance to a vendor without first confirming the data on it is gone. For those that can’t, the FortiWiFi 71G Secure RMA, 5-Year (FC-10-FW71G-301-02-60) resolves the conflict. Fortinet provides a replacement unit and waives the standard device-return requirement. The defective FortiWiFi 71G remains on-site under your custody for the full five years of the subscription.
The FortiWiFi 71G runs Fortinet’s FortiSP5 security processing unit and stores configuration and policy data on internal solid-state media that cannot be removed in the field. Under a standard return-and-replace RMA, that device — and its storage — travels back to Fortinet. Secure RMA changes the process: Fortinet ships a replacement unit to you and does not require the defective device back. You retain physical custody of the failed hardware and can dispose of it according to your security policy.
This subscription runs for five years from the activation date and must be attached to an active FortiCare Premium or FortiCare Elite contract on the same device. It does not include expedited delivery or on-site engineer services; those are separate add-ons (SKUs ending in -211- or -212-).
Secure RMA is most relevant to organizations with formal data-handling requirements: government agencies, financial institutions, healthcare facilities operating under HIPAA or provincial privacy regulations, and defense contractors with chain-of-custody obligations for network hardware. It also applies to any site where shipping a failed device off-premises would trigger a security review, breach notification assessment, or approval process.
If your FortiWiFi 71G handles segmented traffic, wireless guest isolation, or encrypted tunnels in a sensitive environment, keeping the defective unit on-site after failure is a defensible data governance position.
This is a software subscription delivered electronically. After purchase, DataCenter360.ca sends a registration key by email, typically within one business day. Log into the Fortinet Support portal at support.fortinet.com, register the key against your FortiWiFi 71G serial number, and coverage activates immediately. No physical shipment is involved at purchase; the Secure RMA replacement unit ships only if and when a hardware failure occurs.
Standard FortiCare Premium includes next-business-day Advanced Replacement: Fortinet ships a replacement before it receives the faulty unit, but return of the defective device is expected. Secure RMA removes the return requirement. The table below shows how the three FortiCare tiers handle RMA at baseline — Secure RMA is the add-on that eliminates the return obligation regardless of tier.

The FortiWiFi 71G stores configuration, VPN settings, and session data on internal solid-state media that is not user-removable. Under standard RMA, that media leaves with the returned device. Secure RMA keeps the device — and its data — on-site.
An active FortiCare Premium or FortiCare Elite subscription on the same FortiWiFi 71G serial number. Secure RMA cannot be activated without one of these base support contracts.
All three terms provide the same non-return RMA service; the only difference is the coverage duration. The 5-year term typically offers a lower per-year cost and reduces renewal overhead for long-term deployments.
Secure RMA governs the disposition of the defective device. Replacement timing depends on the underlying FortiCare level and any Priority RMA add-ons. FortiCare Premium includes next-business-day Advanced Replacement; FortiCare Elite adds a 15-minute critical-issue response time.
DataCenter360.ca emails a registration key, typically within one business day. Register it in the Fortinet Support portal (support.fortinet.com) against your device’s serial number. Coverage begins immediately at registration.
