Three-year procurement cycles are common in government and regulated industries — and so are the compliance requirements around how network hardware gets handled at end-of-life or failure. The FortiWiFi 71G Secure RMA, 3-Year (FC-10-FW71G-301-02-36) aligns with that cycle. If the FortiWiFi 71G fails during coverage, Fortinet dispatches a replacement. The defective unit stays in your facility; you retain custody of the data stored on its internal solid-state media.
The FortiWiFi 71G runs Fortinet’s FortiSP5 security processing unit and stores configuration and policy data on internal solid-state media that cannot be removed in the field. Under a standard return-and-replace RMA, that device — and its storage — travels back to Fortinet. Secure RMA changes the process: Fortinet ships a replacement unit to you and does not require the defective device back. You retain physical custody of the failed hardware and can dispose of it according to your security policy.
This subscription runs for three years from the activation date and must be attached to an active FortiCare Premium or FortiCare Elite contract on the same device. It does not include expedited delivery or on-site engineer services; those are separate add-ons (SKUs ending in -211- or -212-).
Secure RMA is most relevant to organizations with formal data-handling requirements: government agencies, financial institutions, healthcare facilities operating under HIPAA or provincial privacy regulations, and defense contractors with chain-of-custody obligations for network hardware. It also applies to any site where shipping a failed device off-premises would trigger a security review, breach notification assessment, or approval process.
If your FortiWiFi 71G handles segmented traffic, wireless guest isolation, or encrypted tunnels in a sensitive environment, keeping the defective unit on-site after failure is a defensible data governance position.
This is a software subscription delivered electronically. After purchase, DataCenter360.ca sends a registration key by email, typically within one business day. Log into the Fortinet Support portal at support.fortinet.com, register the key against your FortiWiFi 71G serial number, and coverage activates immediately. No physical shipment is involved at purchase; the Secure RMA replacement unit ships only if and when a hardware failure occurs.
Standard FortiCare Premium includes next-business-day Advanced Replacement: Fortinet ships a replacement before it receives the faulty unit, but return of the defective device is expected. Secure RMA removes the return requirement. The table below shows how the three FortiCare tiers handle RMA at baseline — Secure RMA is the add-on that eliminates the return obligation regardless of tier.

DataCenter360.ca is a Fortinet Select Partner with experience matching organizations to the right coverage terms. This 3-year Secure RMA subscription is delivered as an electronic license key — no shipping, no delays. If your organization is also evaluating FortiCare Premium or Elite contracts for the same device, we can help bundle those into a single procurement cycle.
Secure RMA is a Priority RMA add-on. Fortinet only offers Priority RMA add-ons — including Secure RMA — to devices covered under FortiCare Premium or FortiCare Elite. FortiCare Essential does not qualify.
Fortinet ships a replacement and does not ask for the defective unit back. The device stays in your facility, along with the data on its internal solid-state storage. You handle disposal per your organization’s procedures.
Secure RMA covers the physical device replacement under the non-return arrangement. Software support, firmware updates, and technical case handling are governed by the underlying FortiCare Premium or Elite contract, not the Secure RMA add-on.
Availability varies by country. Contact DataCenter360.ca or Fortinet directly to confirm service availability at your location before purchasing.
Secure RMA is a per-device subscription. Each FortiWiFi 71G unit needs its own Secure RMA license registered to that device’s serial number.
