The FortiAP 244K (FAP-244K-A) is the enterprise-class outdoor Wi-Fi 7 access point for sites that need full tri-band capacity outside the building. Four radios cover 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz with a dedicated all-band scanner, seven internal antennas keep the enclosure sealed and rugged, and the uplink is serious: a 10 Gbps SFP+ fibre cage plus a 5 Gbps RJ45 PoE port. Built to run from -40°C to 70°C with onboard GNSS, it suits stadium concourses, yards, campuses, and transit areas where weather and distance rule out an indoor AP.

What’s in the box

Where it earns its place

The 10 Gbps SFP+ uplink is the headline. Outdoor APs are often the hardest to backhaul, and a fibre SFP+ cage lets the 244K terminate a long fibre run at full speed while the separate 5 Gbps RJ45 handles PoE in. Three client-serving radios plus a dedicated scanner mean the unit can push 6 GHz capacity and still watch every band for rogues and interference full-time. The rugged enclosure and -40°C rating handle real weather, and onboard GNSS keeps it location-aware for large-site asset and fleet tracking.

Powering it

The 244K needs 802.3bt and ships with the GPI-145 injector to provide it. A bt-capable PoE switch port works equally well. Maximum draw is 26 W, well within an 802.3bt budget.

Management and licensing

No per-AP operating license. The 244K is managed by a FortiGate or FortiEdge Cloud, with optional FortiCare Premium support (FC-10-F244K- prefix) sold separately. Use of the 6 GHz band is subject to regional regulatory approval; this Region Code A model is cleared for Canada under current ISED rules.
