The FortiAP 223E is a Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac Wave 2) indoor access point built for medium-density spaces such as offices and classrooms. It pairs two 2x2 MU-MIMO client radios - one on 2.4 GHz and one on 5 GHz - with a dedicated third radio for continuous scanning and security, and uses external antennas for flexible coverage shaping (the internal-antenna sibling is the 221E). It is managed by any FortiGate or by FortiAP Cloud, with no separate controller. The 223E reached end of order on 23 October 2025 and is now sold from remaining stock; Fortinet continues firmware, security updates and FortiCare renewals through 2030, so existing fleets stay protected. For new rollouts the current replacement is the Wi-Fi 7 FortiAP 231K - the same mainstream indoor class with far higher capacity - while the Wi-Fi 6 FortiAP 231F is a closer like-for-like step up.

The 223E is legacy – here is how to renew what you own or move to its current-generation successor.
| Lifecycle | End of order 23 Oct 2025 · end of support 23 Oct 2030 (renewable) |
| Type | Indoor access point, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac Wave 2), dual-band 2.4 / 5 GHz |

Mounts and power for the FortiAP 223E.
The FortiAP 223E reached end of order on 23 October 2025 and is classified as legacy. Hardware is sold only from remaining stock, but Fortinet continues firmware, security updates and FortiCare support through 23 October 2030, so existing deployments remain fully protected and renewable.
The current successor is the Wi-Fi 7 FortiAP 231K – the same mainstream 2×2 indoor class with much higher capacity. The Wi-Fi 6 FortiAP 231F is a closer like-for-like step up, and the 221E is the internal-antenna sibling within the same E-series.
It is a dual-radio Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac Wave 2) AP with 2×2 MU-MIMO on each band, reaching up to 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz – about 1.3 Gbps aggregate – plus a dedicated scanning radio and up to 512 clients per serving radio.
They share the same 2×2 Wi-Fi 5 radios; the 223E uses external antennas for coverage shaping, while the 221E uses internal antennas for a cleaner ceiling install. Choose the 223E where you need to aim or extend coverage.
