The FS-AX9000G-SUP is the supervisor module for the FortiSwitch AX9000G chassis family. It controls the chassis and performs packet forwarding, so no AX9004G or AX9008G operates without at least one installed. Each module carries 32 GB of ECC DDR5 memory, 80 MB of packet buffers and a 40 GB onboard SSD, plus a 10/100/1000BASE-T management port, an RS-232C console port and a USB port.
A chassis can host up to two supervisor modules. Fortinet's datasheet describes active-passive and active-active operation for control and forwarding redundancy, and an optional 320 GB SSD, as capabilities that will be supported by future firmware — they are not available at present. The switching capacity figure of 12.8 Tbps applies with one supervisor; the 25.6 Tbps active-active figure is part of the same planned firmware work.
The module is hot swappable, as are the line cards, fan modules and power supplies, so a second supervisor can be added to a running chassis. The AX9000G family is managed through FortiSwitchNMS; FortiLink and Security Fabric integration are planned but not currently available.
