The FortiSwitch AX9004G is a modular chassis switch built for data centers, enterprise cores and large campus sites that need to scale a switch rather than replace it. Four line-card slots accept any combination of the AX9000G cards — 48-port multi-gigabit PoE, 48-port 10G SFP+, 48-port 25G with 100G uplinks, 32-port 100G, or 8-port 400G — so one chassis can serve a PoE access edge and a 100G core at the same time. Up to two supervisor modules provide control and forwarding redundancy, and every component (supervisor, line card, fan, power supply) is hot swappable, so capacity is added and faults are cleared without taking the chassis down.
The chassis ships empty. A working system is the AX9004G plus at least one FS-AX9000G-SUP supervisor module, at least one line card, three fan modules and the power supplies for your configuration. Fortinet requires three fan modules for normal operation regardless of how many cards are installed. Everything is ordered separately — the parts are listed further down this page, and we are happy to quote the complete system.
The AX9000G family is managed through FortiSwitchNMS, Fortinet's network management platform, which gives a single view of large multi-vendor estates. Fortinet has stated that Security Fabric integration through FortiLink is planned for this platform; it is not available today, so the AX9004G is not managed from a FortiGate the way the fixed-configuration FortiSwitch models are.

The AX9000G comes as two chassis. The AX9004G takes four line cards in 11RU; the AX9008G takes eight. Both accept the same supervisor modules and the same line cards, so the choice is about how much you expect to grow, not about capability.

Both chassis take the same supervisor modules and line cards. The 8-slot AX9008G uses its own fan module (FS-AX9008G-FAN); the 4-slot AX9004G uses FS-AX9004G-FAN. Power supplies are shared across both.
Five line cards fit the AX9004G’s four slots, in any combination — multi-gigabit 802.3bt PoE, 10G SFP+, 25G with 100G uplinks, 32-port 100G, and 8-port 400G. Cards are hot swappable, so you can start with one and fill the chassis later without downtime.

You can run a 48-port multi-gigabit PoE card (LC10P) alongside a 32-port 100G card (LC100) in the same chassis, so one switch can serve a PoE access edge and a high-speed core. Line cards are hot swappable, so slots can be filled later without taking the chassis down. Step up to the AX9008G if you need eight slots.
12.8 Tbps duplex with one supervisor module, and 5,253 Mpps forwarding with one supervisor and four LC100 cards. Latency is under 4.3 microseconds and the MAC address table holds 256,000 entries. Fortinet lists 25.6 Tbps with active-active supervisors as a planned firmware capability, not something available today.
