The FS-AX9004G-FAN is the cooling module for the FortiSwitch AX9004G four-slot chassis. Fortinet requires three fan modules for normal operation regardless of the number and combination of supervisor modules and line cards installed — this is not scaled to the load, so even a lightly populated chassis needs all three.
The modules are hot swappable, so a failed unit can be replaced while the chassis stays in service. Airflow through the AX9004G is front to back, and the chassis dissipates up to 18,000 BTU/h at maximum configuration, which is worth planning for in rack and room cooling.
This module fits the four-slot AX9004G only. The eight-slot FS-AX9008G uses its own fan module, FS-AX9008G-FAN — the two are not interchangeable. Power supplies, by contrast, are shared between both chassis.

No. The FS-AX9004G-FAN fits the four-slot FS-AX9004G only. The eight-slot FS-AX9008G uses its own module, FS-AX9008G-FAN. Power supplies are shared between the two chassis, but fan modules are not.
