OVERVIEW

What the FortiAP HD-441K is for

The FortiAP HD-441K is the odd one out in the High Density family, and usefully so. The other four members are outdoor units built to throw narrow beams across a stadium bowl. The HD-441K is an indoor access point with a hemispherical pattern, designed for the places inside a venue where the crowd is dense but the ceiling is close: concourses, club levels, convention halls, lecture theatres, transport terminals and trading floors.

Density here is handled with radio count rather than beam shaping. Three service radios run concurrently at 4x4:4 MU-MIMO — 2.4 GHz to 1,201 Mbps, 5 GHz to 2,402 Mbps on channels up to 240 MHz, and 6 GHz to 4,804 Mbps on 320 MHz channels, all with 4096-QAM and ZeroWait DFS — for 21.3 Gbps aggregate and up to 512 clients on each. A fourth radio, 2x2 and software-configurable across all three bands, does the security and RF work full time: rogue scanning, WIDS and WIPS, packet capture and spectrum analysis, without borrowing airtime from clients. Add radio resource management, multi-radio client load balancing and assisted roaming and you have an AP that holds up when a session lets out and 800 people move at once.

The uplinks match the radios: two multigigabit RJ45 ports running anywhere from 100M to 10 Gigabit, giving 20 Gbps of backhaul, both 802.3bt-capable with hitless PoE failover so losing one switch or one injector does not drop the AP. Power is 41.7 W maximum from a GPI-145 injector or a 12 V DC adapter, and on 802.3at the AP steps down gracefully to 2x2 on the service radios while keeping the scanning radio alive. There is also a USB 3.0 Type A port at 4.5 W, an RS-232 console, a Kensington lock, built-in surge protection and a Trusted Platform Module. Internal antennas cover all four radios plus BLE / Zigbee and a GPS active antenna tracking GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS across 47 channels. It is UL2043 plenum rated, runs 0°C to 50°C, weighs 4.36 lb and ships with a ceiling, T-rail and wall mount kit.

FAQ

FortiAP HD-441K frequently asked questions

The FortiAP HD-441K is a current-generation Wi-Fi 7 access point, actively sold and fully supported. It is not on an end-of-order or end-of-support schedule.

It is a dedicated 2×2 scanning radio, software-configurable across 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz. It runs rogue-AP scanning, WIDS and WIPS, packet capture and spectrum analysis continuously. On an access point without one, those functions time-share a client-serving radio and cost you airtime; here all three service radios stay fully available while monitoring runs in parallel.

They are closely related indoor tri-band 4×4 Wi-Fi 7 access points with the same dedicated scanning radio and dual 10 Gigabit uplinks. The HD-441K is positioned and sold within the FortiAP High Density family for large-venue projects, and it carries its own SKU, its own FortiCare part numbers and its own price. If you are specifying a venue build alongside the outdoor 444Kx or 224Kx units, talk to us before ordering so the controller topology and support contracts line up.

It is the only indoor unit in the family and the only one with a 2.4 GHz radio. The outdoor models — HD-444KW, HD-444KN, HD-224KL and HD-224KR — use directional or fixed beams on 5 and 6 GHz to throw signal 75 to 250 ft across a stadium bowl. The HD-441K uses a hemispherical pattern to blanket the space it hangs in, which is what you want on a concourse, in a hall or in a lecture theatre.

Two multigigabit RJ45 ports running 100M to 10 Gigabit give 20 Gbps of backhaul, and both are 802.3bt-capable with hitless PoE failover, so losing one switch or injector does not drop the AP. Maximum consumption is 41.7 W. Power it from an 802.3bt switch port, the GPI-145 injector or the SP-FAP250-PA-10 12 V DC adapter. On 802.3at it still operates, stepping the service radios down to 2×2 at 17 dBm while keeping the scanning radio running.

Yes. It carries a GPS active antenna and tracks GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS across 47 channels with five concurrent constellations, plus SBAS augmentation (WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS and GAGAN) at -147 dBm sensitivity. There is also a BLE and Zigbee radio for beacons, asset tags and locationing.

FortiCare Premium in 1, 3 and 5 year terms — 24×7 TAC, advance hardware replacement and firmware updates. The high-density line does not have Essential, Elite or priority RMA SKUs; Premium is the support tier for this family. Licensing is delivered electronically, worldwide.
