OVERVIEW

What the FortiSwitch 524D is for

The FortiSwitch 524D is a 24-port Gigabit Ethernet access switch from Fortinet's 500-series Secure Campus line - 24x GE RJ45 ports, four 10GE SFP+ and two 40GE QSFP+ uplinks, with 288 Gbps of switching capacity. It is data only (no PoE). Managed over FortiLink from any FortiGate, it folds wired access into the Security Fabric so switching, Wi-Fi and security share one console.

The 524D has reached end of sale and is no longer stocked as new hardware. The current, in-stock replacement is the FortiSwitch 624F - the same 24-port access role with 5GE multi-gigabit copper, 25GE SFP28 uplinks and hardware MACsec. See the upgrade path below, or contact us for migration help.

Compare the FortiSwitch 500-series line

The 524D and 524D-FPOE share the same 24-port / 288 Gbps platform with 10GE SFP+ and 40GE QSFP+ uplinks – they differ by Power over Ethernet: the 524D-FPOE powers 24 ports at up to 740 W, the data-only 524D has no PoE. The 48-port 548D-FPOE is the larger sibling. All are now end of sale; the current equivalents are the FortiSwitch 624F and 624F-FPOE.

No. The FortiSwitch 524D (FS-524D) has reached end of sale and is no longer stocked as new hardware. The current, in-stock replacement is the FortiSwitch 624F – we can quote it and help you migrate. FortiCare renewals for existing 524D units may still be available; contact us.

The FortiSwitch 624F is the direct replacement – the same 24-port access role with 5GE multi-gigabit copper, 25GE SFP28 uplinks, hardware MACsec and a higher 440 Gbps switching capacity. Same FortiSwitchOS and FortiLink management.

No – the base 524D is data only (24x GE RJ45 + 4x 10GE SFP+ + 2x 40GE QSFP+). The 524D-FPOE powered all 24 ports (370 W). The current equivalents are the 624F and 624F-FPOE.

Over FortiLink from any FortiGate firewall, so switching, Wi-Fi and security were managed in one console with no separate controller. It could also run standalone. The FortiSwitch 624F keeps the same FortiLink management.
