The FortiWiFi 81F-2R-3G4G-POE is the Power-over-Ethernet, LTE and onboard-SSD model of Fortinet's 80F wireless desktop next-generation firewall line. Built on the SoC4 security processor, it provides six GE RJ45 PoE/PoE+ ports plus two PoE/PoE+ FortiLink ports with a 96 W total power budget (up to 30 W per port, 802.3at), so it can power FortiAPs, IP phones and cameras directly. It adds an integrated 3G/4G LTE cellular modem with two Nano SIM slots and a 128 GB SSD for local logging, on top of two GE RJ45/SFP shared-media pairs, and carries a dual Wi-Fi radio (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) running 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (Wi-Fi 6) with a separate scanning radio. It delivers 10 Gbps firewall throughput, 900 Mbps of threat protection, 1,500,000 concurrent sessions and 6.5 Gbps of IPsec VPN, with FortiOS secure SD-WAN steering traffic across the broadband and LTE links automatically. The FortiWiFi 81F-2R-3G4G-POE is a current, shipping FortiGate ‘F’ series wireless next-generation firewall built on the SoC4 security processor, with active FortiGuard and FortiCare subscriptions available. It is the PoE, LTE and SSD model of the 80F desktop line.
It has six GE RJ45 PoE/PoE+ ports plus two PoE/PoE+ FortiLink ports with a 96 W total power budget, supplying up to 30 W per port (IEEE 802.3at). That is enough to power FortiAPs, IP phones and cameras directly from the firewall.
It combines standard Ethernet WAN (two GE RJ45/SFP shared-media pairs) with an integrated 3G/4G LTE cellular modem (Sierra Wireless EM7565, CAT-12) and two Nano SIM slots for failover. Wireless is a dual Wi-Fi radio (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) running 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax (Wi-Fi 6) with 2×2 MU-MIMO plus a scanning radio and six SMA antenna ports. Note this model has PoE instead of an xDSL port.
Security performance, Wi-Fi 6, LTE, the 128 GB SSD and FortiOS features are identical. The 81F-2R-3G4G-POE provides six PoE/PoE+ ports (96 W budget) to power downstream devices, while the 81F-2R-3G4G-DSL provides an xDSL RJ11 WAN port instead of PoE.
