The FortiAP 231G is Fortinet's entry-tier indoor Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) access point — a tri-radio design that adds the clean 6 GHz band to the usual 2.4 and 5 GHz radios, giving 2x2 client connections more room and far less interference. A dedicated scanning function keeps rogue-AP and threat detection running continuously without interrupting clients. It uses the full Wi-Fi 6 / 6E toolkit — OFDMA, MU-MIMO, BSS coloring and Target Wake Time — to serve more devices more efficiently, over a single Gigabit PoE uplink that drops into existing cabling. An integrated BLE / Zigbee radio supports beacons, locationing and IoT, and the AP is managed by any FortiGate or by FortiEdge Cloud — no per-AP management licence. The 231G is end-of-order but remains in our catalog, fully supported and renewable through 2030. For the newer Wi-Fi 7 generation step up to the FortiAP 231K; the 233G is the step-up sibling with a 2.5 GbE uplink and higher 6 GHz throughput, and the 234G is the outdoor version of this radio.

It is a tri-radio Wi-Fi 6E AP with 2×2 MU-MIMO on each band, reaching 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1201 Mbps on 6 GHz — about 3.0 Gbps aggregate — with up to 512 clients per serving radio.
It runs on standard 802.3at PoE over a single Gigabit Ethernet uplink. Power it from any 802.3at PoE switch, the GPI-130 injector, or the SP-FAP200-PA adapter.
For the newer Wi-Fi 7 generation, the FortiAP 231K is the direct successor — same 2×2 indoor form factor with 4096-QAM, wider 6 GHz channels and a 5 GbE uplink. The FortiAP 233G is a close Wi-Fi 6E step-up with a 2.5 GbE uplink, and the 234G is the outdoor version of the same radio.
