The FortiAP 231G is a Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) indoor access point with a tri-radio design that adds the clean 6 GHz band to the usual 2.4 and 5 GHz radios, giving 2x2 client connections more room and less interference. It is the entry point of the FortiAP G-series for mainstream offices and classrooms, managed directly by any FortiGate or by FortiEdge Cloud with no separate controller and no per-AP management license. The 231G reached end of order on 6 July 2025 and is now sold from remaining stock; Fortinet continues support, firmware and FortiCare renewals through 2030, so existing fleets are fully protected. For new rollouts the direct replacement is the Wi-Fi 7 FortiAP 231K, which keeps the same 2x2 indoor form factor and adds 4096-QAM and wider 6 GHz channels. The 233G is the step-up sibling with a 2.5 GbE uplink and higher 6 GHz throughput.

The 433F is legacy – here is how to renew what you own or move to its Wi-Fi 7 successor.

Power and mount the FortiAP 231G.
The FortiAP 231G reached end of order on 6 July 2025 and is classified as legacy. Hardware is sold only from remaining stock, but Fortinet continues firmware, security updates and FortiCare support through 6 July 2030, so existing deployments remain fully protected and renewable.
The direct successor is the Wi-Fi 7 FortiAP 231K – same 2×2 indoor form factor, with 4096-QAM, wider 6 GHz channels and a higher aggregate rate. The FortiAP 233G is a close Wi-Fi 6E step-up with a 2.5 GbE uplink, and the 234G is the outdoor/ruggedized version of the same radio.
It is a tri-radio Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) AP with 2×2 MU-MIMO on each band, reaching 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1201 Mbps on 6 GHz – about 3.0 Gbps aggregate – with up to 512 clients per serving radio.
It uses 802.3at PoE over a single Gigabit Ethernet uplink. The GPI-130 injector or the SP-FAP200-PA adapter are listed power options.
