The FortiAP 222KL is the only FortiAP that combines enterprise Wi-Fi with a LoRaWAN IoT gateway in a single outdoor enclosure. Two Wi-Fi 7 radios deliver 2x2 MU-MIMO on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands — up to 688 Mbps and 2.88 Gbps respectively — while a dedicated LoRaWAN radio (902-928 MHz in North America, 8 uplink channels, SF7-SF12, 26 dBm transmit and -139 dBm receive sensitivity) reaches battery-powered sensors kilometres away that Wi-Fi cannot economically cover. That combination is what makes it a site-in-a-box for utilities, agriculture, ports, mining, oil and gas, campuses and smart-city deployments.
Where there is no fibre or copper to the pole, an integrated LTE Cat 4 modem with eSIM provides 150 / 50 Mbps backhaul, and multi-constellation GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and SBAS) gives each unit an accurate position and timing reference. A second RJ45 port acts as 802.3af power sourcing equipment, so the AP can power a camera or a sensor bridge downstream instead of requiring its own switch at the pole. Five external N-type antenna connections let you match gain and pattern to the site rather than accept a fixed internal array.
Construction is built for the worst of the site: IP67 sealing, -40°F to 158°F (-40°C to 70°C) operating range, 165 mph (266 km/h) wind rating, 3,000 m altitude and Class 1 Division 2 / ATEX Zone 2 hazardous-location compliance. A Trusted Platform Module anchors hardware identity, and the AP is managed by any FortiGate's built-in WLAN controller, by FortiEdge Cloud or through FortiSASE — no separate wireless controller and no per-AP management licence. Note that the LTE module's availability depends on the country of use, and it is not supported in the early release firmware.

Outdoor and ruggedized FortiAP models. They differ by Wi-Fi generation, spatial streams, antenna type and what else is built in. The 222KL is the only one that carries a LoRaWAN IoT gateway, LTE backhaul and GNSS alongside its Wi-Fi radios.
The 222KL trades raw Wi-Fi throughput for IoT and cellular reach. Choose the 244K when you need 6 GHz and a 10 Gigabit uplink outdoors, or the 234G for a lower-cost Wi-Fi 6E outdoor unit.
Every available SKU for the FAP-222KL: access point hardware (Americas region), FortiCare support tiers, FortiSASE cloud management and RMA services. In stock; licensing delivered electronically worldwide.

Power and protect the FortiAP 222KL — the 802.3bt injector, mounting brackets and grounding cable ship in the box.
The 222KL ships with its 802.3bt PoE injector, wall and pole mounting brackets and a grounding cable. On outdoor masts, fit the FAP-LGHT-ARST-1PACK coaxial lightning arrestors in line with the external antennas — this pack is made specifically for the 222KL.
The FortiAP 222KL is a current-generation Wi-Fi 7 outdoor access point, actively sold and fully supported. It is not on an end-of-order or end-of-support schedule.
It is the only FortiAP that pairs enterprise Wi-Fi with a built-in LoRaWAN gateway. Alongside its two 2×2 Wi-Fi 7 radios it carries a LoRaWAN radio for long-range low-power IoT sensors, an LTE Cat 4 modem for backhaul where there is no wired connection, and multi-constellation GNSS. Other outdoor models such as the 244K and 432G give you more Wi-Fi throughput but no LoRaWAN or LTE.
In North America it operates on 902-928 MHz with eight 125 kHz uplink channels (902.3-914.9 MHz) and one 500 kHz downlink channel, spreading factors SF7 through SF12, 26 dBm transmit power and -139 dBm receive sensitivity. That reach lets a single gateway cover sensors spread across a site or several kilometres of open ground.
No. The 222KL is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 access point covering 2.4 and 5 GHz, reaching up to 688 Mbps and 2.88 Gbps respectively. If you need 6 GHz outdoors, the FortiAP 244K adds a 6 GHz radio, a dedicated scanning radio and a 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink.
Port 1 is a multigigabit RJ45 (100M / 1G / 2.5G) with 802.3bt PoE input, and the 802.3bt injector ships in the box. Port 2 is a 1 Gigabit RJ45 that acts as 802.3af power sourcing equipment, so the AP can power a downstream camera or sensor bridge. Maximum draw is 26 W. Where no cable can reach, the LTE Cat 4 modem provides 150 / 50 Mbps backhaul, subject to your country of use.
Yes. It is rated Class 1 Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2, sealed to IP67, operates from -40°C to 70°C, withstands 165 mph (266 km/h) wind and is rated to 3,000 m altitude — suitable for fuel, chemical, mining and process environments. Use the FAP-LGHT-ARST-1PACK coaxial lightning arrestors on mast-mounted antennas.
The FAP-222KL-A (Americas) is in stock and usually dispatched the same or next business day. FortiCare support and subscriptions are delivered electronically, worldwide. DataCenter360.ca is an authorized Fortinet Select Partner.
