The FortiAP 244K is Fortinet's outdoor Wi-Fi 7 workhorse. Four radios sit behind seven internal directional antennas: one serving 2.4 GHz at up to 688 Mbps, one serving 5 GHz at up to 4.324 Gbps on channels as wide as 240 MHz, one serving 6 GHz at up to 5.765 Gbps on 320 MHz channels, and a fourth radio that scans all three bands continuously. That fourth radio is the point — on most access points, rogue-AP detection, WIDS and spectrum analysis steal airtime from clients. Here they run on dedicated silicon while the other three radios stay fully available.
Uplink is where outdoor APs usually run out of road, so the 244K carries two. Port 1 is a multigigabit RJ45 at 100M / 1G / 2.5G / 5G with 802.3bt PoE input, and the GPI-145 injector ships in the box. Port 2 is an SFP+ cage running at 1 or 10 Gigabit, which lets you run fibre to a rooftop, a light pole or a yard mast and clear the 100 metre copper limit entirely. An integrated BLE and Zigbee radio handles beacons, asset tags and locationing, and multi-constellation GNSS gives each AP its own position fix for outdoor RF planning and asset tracking.
The enclosure is sealed to IP67 and rated from -40°F to 158°F (-40°C to 70°C), with an articulating wall and pole bracket and a grounding cable included. Unlike most outdoor APs the 244K is UTP capable, so Application Control and Web Filtering can be enforced at the AP itself. A Trusted Platform Module anchors hardware identity, and management comes from any FortiGate's built-in WLAN controller, FortiEdge Cloud or FortiSASE — no separate wireless controller and no per-AP management licence. Use of the 6 GHz band is subject to your regional regulator's approval.

The 244K ships with its GPI-145 802.3bt PoE injector, an articulating wall / pole bracket and a grounding cable. The SFP+ cage is empty — add a short-range transceiver for in-building fibre runs, or a long-range one to reach a mast or outbuilding up to 10 km away.
The FortiAP 244K is a current-generation Wi-Fi 7 outdoor access point, actively sold and fully supported. It is not on an end-of-order or end-of-support schedule.
It is a dedicated scanning radio. On a typical three-radio access point, rogue-AP detection, WIDS / WIPS, spectrum analysis and packet capture have to time-share a client-serving radio, which costs airtime. The 244K runs those functions continuously on a fourth radio across 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz, so all three service radios stay fully available to clients.

Port 1 is a multigigabit RJ45 (100M / 1G / 2.5G / 5G) with 802.3bt PoE input, and the GPI-145 injector is included in the package. Port 2 is an SFP+ cage that runs at 1 or 10 Gigabit for fibre uplinks. Maximum draw is 26 W. Because the radios can exceed what a single 2.5 GbE port carries, the SFP+ uplink is worth using on high-traffic sites.
Both are outdoor Wi-Fi 7 units. The 244K is the throughput model: four radios including 6 GHz and a dedicated scanner, internal directional antennas and a 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplink. The 222KL trades that for reach and IoT — two Wi-Fi radios on 2.4 and 5 GHz plus a LoRaWAN gateway, LTE Cat 4 backhaul, GNSS and five external N-type antennas. Choose the 244K for capacity, the 222KL for sensor networks and sites with no wired backhaul.
Yes. It is UL2043 plenum rated and can be deployed in indoor spaces, though its directional internal antennas and articulating pole bracket are designed for outdoor coverage. For dedicated indoor high-density deployments the FortiAP 441K or 443K are the better fit.
