The FortiAP 831F is Fortinet's top-of-the-line Wi-Fi 6 indoor access point, built for the most demanding high-density spaces - lecture halls, auditoriums, conference centres, arenas and large open offices. Where most APs offer four spatial streams, the 831F delivers eight: its 5 GHz radio runs 8x8 MU-MIMO (or splits into dual 4x4) while a separate 4x4 radio serves 2.4 GHz, so far more devices get full-rate connections at once. A dedicated third radio scans continuously for threats and rogue APs, so security never costs you client airtime. A 5 Gigabit Ethernet uplink plus a second Gigabit port give you the headroom and PoE diversity that eight streams demand, and an integrated BLE radio supports beacons and locationing. The 831F is managed by any FortiGate or by FortiEdge Cloud - no separate controller and no per-AP management license. For the newest Wi-Fi 7 standard with a 6 GHz band, step up to the 441K; for mainstream density, look at the 431G.

Power and mount the FortiAP 831F.
The FortiAP 831F is a current-generation, high-performance Wi-Fi 6 access point, actively sold and fully supported. It is not on an end-of-order or end-of-support schedule.
It is a tri-radio Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) AP with eight spatial streams: the 5 GHz radio runs 8×8 MU-MIMO (or splits into dual 4×4) and the 2.4 GHz radio runs 4×4, reaching up to 1147 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 4804 Mbps on 5 GHz (about 5.95 Gbps PHY aggregate), with up to 512 clients per serving radio.
Full eight-stream operation needs 802.3bt or 2x 802.3at PoE; on a single 802.3at the USB port is disabled. It has a 5 Gigabit Ethernet uplink (100M / 1G / 2.5G / 5G) plus a second Gigabit port. Fortinet lists the GPI-130 injector or the SP-FAP400-PA adapter as power options; maximum draw is 33 W.
The 831F is the flagship Wi-Fi 6 AP, using eight spatial streams to maximise 5 GHz capacity over existing cabling. The 441K is the newer Wi-Fi 7 flagship: 4×4 across 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz with the added 6 GHz band and dual 10 GbE uplinks. Choose the 441K for Wi-Fi 7 and 6 GHz; choose the 831F for maximum Wi-Fi 6 density.
