It offers 48 GbE RJ45 PoE+ ports plus four 1G SFP fiber uplinks, with a 740 W PoE budget across all 48 ports, Layer 2/3 switching and 104 Gbps of switching capacity, in a 1RU rack-mount chassis. Because every port supplies 802.3af/at power, it can run a dense floor of access points, IP phones and cameras over a single cable each. An optional external FRPS-740 redundant power supply keeps the closet up if the internal PSU fails. Managed over FortiLink from any FortiGate, it folds wired access into the Security Fabric — one console for switching, Wi-Fi and security. It also runs standalone. Need PoE on only half the ports? The 48-port 248E switches share the same 104 Gbps Layer 2/3 platform with four 1G SFP uplinks. They differ by Power over Ethernet: the 248E-FPOE powers all 48 ports at a 740 W budget, and the 248E-POE powers 24 ports at 370 W. The earlier 248D is data only.
The 248E-FPOE is the 48-port, full-PoE member of the E-series access line. Step down to the 24-port 224E-POE, or up to the 448E-FPOE for 10GE SFP+ uplinks and higher switching capacity. Same FortiSwitchOS and FortiLink management across the range.
