The FortiSwitch 248D is a 48-port Gigabit access switch for high-density wiring closets that do not need Power over Ethernet. It delivers 48 Gigabit RJ45 access ports, four GE SFP fiber uplinks, 104 Gbps of switching capacity and 155 Mpps of forwarding with Layer 2/3 FortiSwitchOS in a 1RU rack-mount chassis. Leaving PoE out has a practical payoff: the 248D draws about 39 W at full load against roughly 460 W for the PoE-equipped 248E-POE, so it is markedly cheaper to run and cool where the endpoints are desktops, printers and uplinks rather than access points and cameras. Managed over FortiLink from any FortiGate, it folds wired access into the Security Fabric — one console for switching, Wi-Fi and security, with no separate controller. It also runs standalone. Need power on the ports? The 248E-POE powers 24 ports (370 W) and the 248E-FPOE powers all 48 (740 W); both also accept the FRPS-740 redundant power supply, which the 248D does not.

The 48-port models share the same 104 Gbps Layer 2/3 platform with four GE SFP uplinks. They differ by Power over Ethernet: the data-only 248D has no PoE output, the 248E-POE powers 24 ports at 370 W, and the 248E-FPOE powers all 48 ports at 740 W.
The 248D is the 48-port data-only member of the 200-series Secure Access line. Step down to the 24-port 224E for a smaller closet, or up to the 448E for 10GE SFP+ uplinks and higher switching capacity. Same FortiSwitchOS and FortiLink management across the range.

No. The 248D is data only with no Power over Ethernet on any of its 48 ports. If you need to power access points, IP phones or cameras, the 248E-POE powers 24 ports (370 W) and the 248E-FPOE powers all 48 ports (740 W) on the same 48-port platform.
Yes. The plain 248D is actively sold, priced in the current Fortinet price list and not on an end-of-order schedule. The 248D-POE and 248D-FPOE are different, discontinued models — check the SKU carefully.
No. The 248D has a single internal AC supply and no redundant power option; the FRPS-740 supports the 224D-FPOE, 224E-POE, 248E-POE and 248E-FPOE, not the 248D. If redundant power in the closet is a requirement, choose one of those models.
About 38.7 W average and 39.2 W maximum, with 134 BTU/h of heat dissipation. That is roughly a tenth of the draw of the PoE-equipped 248E-POE, which is the main operating-cost argument for a data-only switch.
